My Aim in life

My Aim in life

Basic Points:

I. Definition of Aim , importance and aimlessness
II. Choice of ambition and my aim.
III. Effect of teacher on  Moral Characters
IV. My Hopes and Teacher’s Respect.
V. Way of teacher and Conclusion

_________________________________________________________________________________

An ambition or aim is an incentive to work hard and to achieve success in life. It is an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame or wealth; and willingness to strive for its attainment. It is a goal for which a man does all his efforts and a dream which is inspired by every heartbeat.

“Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.”
-Bill Bradley

Aims and ambitions increase our potential and channelize our energies in a positive direction. Our abilities increase and our emotions gain momentum. We do not remain “ineffectual angels beating our wings in the void in vain.” Rather, we become the heralds of new era and work for the rejuvenation of world.  We make a new beginning and proceed to serve mankind on individual as well as on collective level. We get a way to use our intelligence since:

“Intelligence without ambition is a bird without    wings.”
                                       -Salvador Dali

Life without aim is a shame. Aimless people are worthless. They have no definite target or goal to achieve. They are like travelers going ahead without any destination. It is just like wandering through forest in circles. It rusts their talents, qualities and ability to work. They ought to reconsider about their ambition since:

“A man’s worth is no greater than his ambitions.”
-Marcus Aurelius

Desire to reach the goal is innate but the choice of it must be absolutely correct. Ambition must be chosen according to the interests and abilities. One must never choose a profession that runs counter to all his interest and abilities. Moreover, it is very important for a student to carefully choose his ambition since:

                          “Ambition’s debt is paid.”

    -William Shakespeare

Different people have different ambitions. Some aim at wealth, some at power, some at fame, some at business and some at education and knowledge. My desire is neither fame nor wealth. I wish to serve my homeland with the best of my talent. Therefore, I have decided to become a teacher so as to enlighten the minds of succeeding generations and to facilitate the renaissance of the world. It is rightly said:

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”
-Henry Brooks Adam

I believe teaching is a noble profession. It is the work of prophets. It helps a person to translate into his life, the Holy Prophet’s (Peace Be upon Him) principle of high thinking. A teacher is the builder of a nation. The future of coming generations rests upon his shoulders. It is he who makes or mars the life of youngsters. He is the ideal of his students in so far as they follow the life pattern of their teacher. A good teacher sets a noble precedent of character. He instills in them the moral virtues of truthfulness, honesty and sincerity of purpose. In fact, he is in a position to render the best service to his pupils only if he wills to do good to them. I believe that :

“Teaching is not about information. It’s about having an honest and intellectual relationship with your students.”
-Paul Lockhart

I hope to enjoy the company of budding young children that will keep me fresh and cheerful. It is better than to get job in some office, where I would have to deal with leaves of worm eaten files. Teaching has thrills and it provides joy only if one is genuinely interested in serving the cause of the young generation. It is unfortunate that most of our graduates adopt teaching as the last resort after trying their luck in several other lines of life. I think that they have forgotten that:

“Teaching is the greatest act of optimism.”

                                                                                                                              Colleen Wilcox

A teacher deserves an honorable place in society. All the great men become great because they are taught greatness by their teachers. But it is regrettable that in our society, teachers are not given the regard they deserve.  They are undercompensated but still they don’t lose heart. It is rightly said:

“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”
-Mark Van Doren

   I want children to learn in a safe and comfortable environment so that their self-esteem will be increased. High self- esteem will enable them to strive for and accomplish any goals they set for themselves. It will feel happy to see  my students’ achievements. I want to teach them the way they like, since it is said;

“If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.”

-Ignacio Estrada

In a bird’s eye view, I reflect that the choice of this ambition is the best of all decisions I have ever made. It gives a sense of relaxation to me. I am confident that it is the best application my elbow grease. Basically, it is a source for self-satisfaction.

My favourite book

My
favourite book

Basic Points:
I. Books & choice. (Para 1 &2)]
II. My fav. Book and its Miracle (Para 3, 4 ).
III. Code of Life (Para 5,6)
IV. Science & Quran ( Para 7)
V. Conclusion (Para 8 )

Books are the legacies that some great genius leaves to the mankind, which are delivered from
generation to generation as presents (gifts) to the posterity (all future generations). They are the food for thought. They are the quietest and the most constant of all friends and the most patient of all teachers. They are like movies in one’s mind, only with better special effects. A single book at the right time can change our views dramatically, give a quantum boost to our knowledge and help us to construct a whole new outlook on the entire world and our life. It is rightly said that:

Some books are to be tasted. Others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested.”
-Francis Bacon

The main objective of reading is to broaden our vision, extend the frontiers of our knowledge, and sharpen our imagination. But the choice of the book one reads must be done wisely. A good book is the precious lifeline of a master’s spirit while a bad book is often more dangerous than the venom of serpent. Not all books are worth reading, it takes a great mental caliber to make the selection of those books, which are interesting and enlightening.

Choose a book as you choose a friend.”
-Sir Christopher Wren

 I have read several books. Though I like most of them but my favourite book is the Holy Quran. It is the last script of the Creator of the universe. It has thirty-parts.  It was revealed on the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.W) about fourteen centuries ago. It is an eternal or It is the most sacred, effective and widely read book in the whole world. Its literal meaning is “reading, lecture, recitation or that which should be read.” It is the type of book about which it can be said that;

A real book is not one that we read, but one that reads us.”
                                                                                                                                                                         -W.H. Auden

The Holy Quran is undoubtedly the greatest miracle of Allah Almighty which He bestowed upon his beloved prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be upon him). It is written in Arabic. Its language is very eloquent, impressive and encouraging. Allah gave challenge to the expert linguists of that time to write even an Ayah like that of Quran. They failed for it is the word of the best of all the writers. Centuries have passed but it is still in its original form. No change of a single word or sentence has been made in it . It is because Allah Himself has promised to guard his book:

“We have without doubt, sent down the message (Quran) and We will surely guard it.”
 - [Al-Quran]

It is complete code of life and good conduct. It has guidance for the people of all times. The commands and prohibitions imparted to us through the Holy Quran that enable us to live a successful life. We can get guidance from it in all the spheres of life. Its injunctions broaden our minds inspire us to observe, understand and conquer the forces of nature. It is the only book which has been translated into almost all the important languages of the world and a number of profound scholars have written commentaries and explanation of this book. It is rightly said

“The newest books are those that never get old.”
   -Holbrook Jackson

The intellectual and moral basis of the way of life as ordained by Islam is fully enunciated (clearly expressed) in the glorious Quran. It elaborates moral principles, philosophy and also describes social, economic and civil-laws. It gives us the golden rules of universal equality, brotherhood, peaceful co-existence, better treatment to women, devotion to duty and all hood norms and values cherished and loved by humanity through ages. Discussion on belief and worship is also an integral part of the book. It gives us a lesson how we can attain permanent bliss after death. It also warns man that disobedience of Allah or His Prophet (P.B.U.H) would render him to a perpetual punishment in the raging fires of hell.

“Whosoever will follow My guidance, they shall have no fear and they shall have no gloom.” – [Al-Quran]

The facts that the scientists are discovering today, have been mentioned in the Holy Quran over
fourteen hundred years before. It gives clue about creation of life: We made every living thing from water. Will the not believe?” (Quran 21:30).  The information about shape of earth, atoms, wormholes , the relativity of time , black holes, the formation of petroleum and much more. Similarly about the Big Bang theory according to which the universe in the beginning was concerted concerted (combined) in singularity with infinite density and the origin of universe, the Holy Quran states:

Don’t the unbelievers see that the heavenly bodies and the earth were joined together a
s one unit of creation before we take them asunder. (apart/in parts)”        - [Al-Quran]

To sum up, the mission of this book is to uproot all the social evils and create a peaceful and healthy environment for mankind during its sojourn (short stay) in this world. Along with this, it provokes man to search for sheer truth and bare realities of the universal and natural systems. After presenting the wondrous (amazing) facts about nature, which science is discovering these days, Allah commands the mankind only to worship Him and to come into His obedience. It is the only key to success in this life and life hereafter.  It has been proved by the sands of time , as long as the  Muslims followed the teaching of the Holy Quran, they held the torch of glory; as soon as the message was neglected by them, the light of their glory was vanquished( dominated) by the darkness of their hearts and nothing was left of them; but ash and dust.

My Hero in History

MY hero in history

Basic Points:

I. Heroism and qualities (Para. 1, 2 )
II  .My Hero and his qualities (Para 3,4)
III. Life and Politics (Para 5,6)
IV. Two Nation Theory and efforts (Para 7,8)
V. Personality and achievements. (Para. 9,10 )

A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. He is the one who voluntarily walks into the unknown. He is a person who, in spite of weakness, doubt or not always knowing the answers, goes ahead and overcomes anyway. He is always selfless, generous and he understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom. Above all, he is somebody who saves people and who really deeply cares.

“A mentor enables a person to achieve. A hero shows what achievement looks like.”
-John C. Mather

A hero must be of high-sky individuality with exemplary character, commendable deeds and imaginative ideas. He must be a man of exceptional qualities of heart and mind, unmatched vigour and unique talent. He must be always ready to make a sacrifice and to take a risk. He must possess the qualities of an inspiring leader to lead his people to their ultimate destiny.

“Show me a hero and I’ll write you a tragedy.”     -F. Scott Fitzgerald

There are many people in the history which possess the qualities of a hero. The heroes of a nation are its important assets .There are great scientists, artists, philosophers, politicians, reformers, poets and sages who brought comforts to the suffering humanity.  Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah is my favouite personality among them. He is my hero in history. Probably it was said for him that:

“Some people born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em”
-William Shakespeare

Born to Poonjah Jinnah on 25th December, 1876 in Karachi, Muhammad Ali Jinnah was no doubt one of the greatest leaders of Muslims of South Asia. With his untiring and selfless efforts, he led the Muslims of sub-continent in their efforts for freedom. His towering personality, his iron will, his courage and confidence, his way of communication, his devotion to the cause for which he was championing for, had made him a man immortal.

“No hero is immortal till he dies.” – W. H. Auden

Coming events cast their shadows before and the childhood of the Father of the Nation gave clue to his future glory and greatness. Even when he used to play marbles on the sands of Karachi, he knew that he had mission in his life. Sober and serious in his adulthood, he proceeded to England for higher studies after matriculation. He qualified as brilliant barrister from Lincoln’s Inn. After his return he started his practice in Bombay and soon became one of the leading lawyers. Once he said:

“Failure is word unknown to me.”   -Mr. Jinnah

Later he joined politics and rose to prominence in the Indian National Congress in early years of his political career. Jinnah also advocated Hindu-Muslim unity, helping to shape the 1916 Lucknow Pact between the Congress and the All-India Muslim League. But later, the narrow vision of certain Hindu leaders disappointed him. He resigned from the Congress in 1920 and continued his politics in the All-India Muslim League. He became a key-leader there and formed a fourteen point constitutional reform plan to safeguard the political rights of Muslims.

“Think 100 times before you take a decision, but once that decision is taken, stand by it as one man.”

-Muhammad Ali Jinnah

He emphasized on all platforms that the problems of sub-continent could only be solved on the basis of Two Nation Theory. The Quaid made it clear to the British authorities that the sub-continent was neither a country nor inhabited by one nation. The Muslims have a separate identity and, they have every right to determine their future course as a separate nation. Undoubtedly, he was also a true Muslim as he believed in the supremacy of Islam
.
”Our guide is Islam and this is the complete code of life.” - Quaid-e- Azam

The Quaid-e-Azam had made up his strong mind to have a separate state for the Muslims in 1930. Under his presidency, the Muslim League passed Pakistan Resolution on 23rd March, 1940 in Lahore. After untiring effort and loss of millions of innocent lives Pakistan came into being on 14th August, 1947, the day of triumph. He took an oath off the office of the first Governor General. His foresightedness, hard work and determination made validity of Pakistan possible.

“There is no power on earth that can undo Pakistan.”  - Mr. Jinnah

The Quaid was a man of strong determination and firm resolution. “I don’t believe in taking the right decision, I take a decision and make it right”, said the Quaid. He gave nation the message of courage and determination. He was of the idea that with faith, discipline and selfless devotion to duty, there is no
thing worthwhile one cannot achieve. He believed that work, work and only work is the key to success in life. He wanted women to play their role in society.

“No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you.”

-Father of the Nation

To sum up, Muhammad Ali Jinnah was the Quaid-e-Azam in true sense. It needs volume to write about such a personality. Few individuals alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation state. Muhammad Ali Jinnah did all three. He brought the Muslims from the shackles of slavery to the shores of freedom but this unparalleled achievement came with too heavy price at the expense of deterioration of his health and fatal illness. But he embraced both with smile and passed away on 11th September, 1948. May his soul rest in peace! May the dream of Quaid’s Pakistan come true!

A visit to a Historical Place

A visit to a historical place

Basic Points:

I .Historical Places and Visit ( Para 1 ,2 )
II.  Pakistan and Hazuri Bagh ( Para 3 ,4 )
III. Shahi Qila ( Para 5 ,6 )
IV. Shahi Qila and Badshahi Mosque ( Para 7.8 )
V. Sum Up ( Para 9 )

Historical Places are character of history, concerned with the events that took place during the course of history. These are our cultural heritage and infact a window to our glorious past. These places represent the culture and architecture of good old times when the rulers paid full attention to the promotion of art. The splendorous buildings introduce us to the profound skills of architects of the old times. These places preserve the names of our forefathers who desired to adorn the world using the best of their capabilities.

“History is a cyclic poem written by Time upon the memories of man.”

 -Percy Bysshe Shelley

A visit to a historical place is an escape from the present and an excursion into the past. A person learns a great deal about his past heritage. Such places tell us stories better than the books on history. It is always valuable for a student as it enriches his knowledge and broadens his vision. In this age of hurries and worries, a visit to a historical place provides an escape from monotonous routine of life. It provides us sweet memories that are like the sweet smelling flowers bestrewn on the strenuous path of life and change life into a bloomy and balmy garden.

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

–Dr. Seuss

Our beloved country Pakistan is a place of great significance regarding historical places.  Historical events, distinct works of genius, wondrous achievements, admirable accomplishment and the cultivation of human art constitute the culture of our nation. The Muslim culture is remarkably exceptional for its great historic heritage. The most startling characteristic of its culture is enviable presentation of Mughal architecture.

“I cannot look at modern buildings without thinking of historical ones.”

-Kevin McCloud

Last month, I was privileged to visit two of the most important historical places in Lahore. We had a trip arranged by our college and I decided to go with it.  We reached Lahore early in the morning and after having breakfast we went to the Hazuri Bagh. It is a garden bounded by the Lahore fort on the east side and the Badshahi Mosque on the west side. It is full with greenery and takes you closer to the nature.

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Its loveliness increases. It will never pass into nothingness.”

    -John Keats

After spending sometime there I and my friends entered the Shahi Qila (also called Lahore Fort) by the main entrance, Alamgiri gate. It has two semi-circular bastions where lotus petal design adorns its base. Then we visited the Moti Masjid that is located near the entrance. Its white marble structure makes it look like a pearl. Near to Moti Masjid is the Maktab Khana. It was used as passage to the Audience Hall from the palace buildings to the north and clerks in the Maktab Khana would also record the entry of guests into the fort.

“If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday.”       -Pearl Buck

Afterwards, we went to the Seesh Mehal which is among the best known monuments of Lahore Fort, and forms the jewel in the fort's crown. The distinctive Shah Jahani style is reflected in the extensive use of white marble, and hierarchical accents of the construction. It is elaborately decorated with a myriad of reflective glass tiles. Located directly beneath the Sheesh Mahal is the Summer Palace, also known as the Pari Mahal, or "Fairy Palace." The Khilwat Khana is also located near Seesh Mehal and it was the residence of the royal ladies of the court.
History is philosophy teaching by examples.”    -Thucydides

Then we went to the Diwan-e-Khas which served as a hall where the Emperor would attend to matters of the state, and where courtiers and state guests were received. We also visited the Diwan-i-Aam which was used a hall for the emperors to hold audience with commoners. Naulakha Pavilion and Shedari Pavilion were also a part of our drop-in. At last, we visited the Lal Burj and the Kala Burj. It was time of Zuhr Prayer now. So we decided to say our prayer in the Badshahi Mosque located across the Hazuri Bagh.

“Who controls the past controls the future.”   -George Orwell

Entrance to the mosque is elaborately decorated with framed and carved paneling.  After passing through the massive gate, there is an expansive sandstone paved courtyard. The mosque also has three marble domes, the largest of which is located in the center of the mosque. Moreover, at each of the four corners of the mosque, there are octagonal, three storey minarets made of red sandstone. We said our prayers in the prayer hall. We also visited the Museum representing the Islamic history. At the end of our visit, we recited Fatihah at the tomb of Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal that is located near the entrance of the mosque.

“Architecture is a visual art and the buildings speak for themselves.”
- Julia Morgan

To sum up, the visit was of great importance to me. It took me to the memory lane of the past that was hidden in the mist of time being mirror to our glorious past. It introduced us to not only the socio-economic status of the Monarchs but also to their taste in art and architecture. It has also unveiled the way of life of the Monarchical societies. Above all, away from the mayhem of the city life, I made a profound road into the life style of the past.
